Tuesday 3 April 2007 by Centro cultural Casa Africa
To present the contributions of African people in the history and formation of Brazilian Culture, the Afro Culture in the Schools Project (ACS) was conceived. Its goal is to insert in the Schools of Minas Gerais activities about African inheritance combining students, teachers, and the whole community. The ACS is still a great opportunity for schools to prepare for the incorporation of Law Nº10.639, of 2003 – created especially to benefit the curriculum of elementary and middle schools.
This project has been created in the model of real interaction between teachers and students working as a team. Passed into municipal law as a cultural incentive in 2005, Afro Culture in the Schools was instituted in the second semester of 2006 as a pilot project in municipal public schools. The activities developed in this first round were accompanied by a project team and school staff who were directed by a multidiciplinary group from the Catholic University of Minas (PUC) composed of post graduates in African and Afro-Brazilian studies and members of The Institution of Racial Inclusion of the same University.
